Company Overview 

Speedo is a renowned swimwear brand that has gained global recognition for its exceptional quality and innovative designs. Founded in 1914 in Sydney, Australia, by Alexander MacRae, Speedo initially started as a manufacturer of knitted swimwear. However, it wasn't until the 1920s that the brand gained prominence with the introduction of the Racerback swimsuit, which offered swimmers greater freedom of movement and became a game-changer in competitive swimming.

Speedo's commitment to innovation and collaboration with elite swimmers has been a key factor in their success. The brand has collaborated with world-class athletes, including Olympic gold medalists, to design and refine their products. This close partnership with athletes has allowed Speedo to create swimwear that meets the specific needs of competitive swimmers, enabling them to excel in the water.

Project Description

Speedo was in need a video for their in-store kiosks for a new line of swimwear and accessories. The brand tapped their brand ambassador, Olympic gold medalist Summer Sanders, to star in the spot. In addition to the video we did a series of short social media content.

Our Concept and Approach

We spent the day on location at Los Angeles Southwest College, where they have an Olympic size pool and aquatic training facility. The first part of the shoot was dedicated to her interview to get the sound bites from Summer Sanders to complete the storyline/arc. We lit her up nicely with powerful daylight sources, with lots of diffusion to keep her skin soft. Summer was very relaxed, and nailed her lines with ease. Once we had her interview in the can, we moved onto the water portion of the shoot. We used RED cameras for their slo motion to capture her swimming, along with GoPros on the bottom of the pool for a different perspective. She is a true professional - both in the water and in front of the camera and thanks to her super cool vibe, the shoot was not only a huge success, but tons of fun as well. Kiosks with the video installed played in retail stores across the country. Speedo was overall very please with the result.
